Specification of Project
Officially open to the public as of Sept. 8, 2016, the arena replaced the city’s Northlands Coliseum. Home to the Edmonton Oilers NHL Hockey Team, Rogers Place is mainly used to host NHL events. The arena, at a cost of nearly 500 million dollars and overall project cost exceeding 1 billion dollars, its construction has provided the region with many jobs and new opportunities. In December of 2014, the venue had already been credited with driving as much as $2.5 billion in downtown development to the city of Edmonton.
BevStream was awarded a contract to design, furnish, and install an entire Beer Piping System, as well as a Bulk CO2 System to serve the entire venue. As one of the last contractors to consult and be awarded a contract on the project, our work needed to be completed under very tight deadlines.
Additionally, all materials — including over 25,000 feet of specialty piping — had to travel through customs to Canada. Aluminum, and copper piping, for specialty applications, and CO2 tanks and management equipment all hit the road with our team.
We also had to consider Canadian currency conversion rates and coordinate our work with Canadian Construction Regulations and the Department of Labor. The Canadian registry of equipment, ABSA, and other local and city agencies were all essential partners during this project.
Because we were working internationally, our installation team was required to acquire work permits, secure housing through specific protocol, and receive education on relevant government safety codes. Successfully meeting all of these challenges, we were able to deliver the final system promptly, efficiently, and in accordance with all government safety codes.
