MSG, the Garden, the Mecca — however you refer to one of New York City’s most famous landmarks, Madison Square Garden is one of a kind.

Perched atop Pennsylvania Station in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, The World’s Most Famous Arena® underwent a complete renovation between 2011 and 2013, which included an expansive new Beverage Piping System from BevStream Corp.

Host to professional ice hockey, boxing, basketball, concerts, ice shows, wrestling, circuses, and much more, Madison Square Garden is the oldest major sports venue in New York; the arena hosted its first event in 1968 and is now home to over 300 events every year. It’s the busiest music venue in North America and one of the top five concert destinations worldwide.

Over the course of three years with a budget of over $1 billion, Jones Lang LaSalle and the Turner Construction Company worked to renovate nine levels of the beloved arena. This project encompassed new construction and full system updates to create more dining options, suspended pedestrian walkways, new locker rooms and office space, new lighting and video resources, and an upgraded roofing system.

Called upon for our renowned design, furnishing, and installation expertise, the BevStream team worked to craft complete Centralized Beer and Soda Piping Systems to service the entire venue. Well over 20,000 feet of piping had to be designed and coordinated throughout all nine arena levels, accommodating hundreds of existing mechanical, electrical, and piping systems.

The work took place during the NBA/NHL “dark summer,” between April and August in three successive years. Working under tight construction schedules, we successfully navigated the complex logistical challenges of Midtown Manhattan, handling material deliveries, construction schedules, housing, equipment mobilization, and warehousing in an extremely congested urban space.

This was one of the largest and most complex projects we have been part of and we are proud to have been chosen for this most challenging project. BevStream’s skilled team met and surpassed all expectations and completed its project scope ahead of schedule.
